In Memoriam: Dean Rita Ann Frantz
The Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action is saddened to learn of the death of University of Iowa College of Nursing Dean Rita Ann Frantz, PhD, RN, FAAN. Dean Frantz was co-lead of the Iowa Action Coalition; colleagues will miss her leadership and insights. Links to articles about the dean’s life can be found on the Campaign blog.

Nevada Nurses Plant Energy and Ideas to Help Urban Farm Grow

The first time the co-leads of the Nevada Action Coalition toured the Vegas Roots Community Garden with its energetic executive director, they knew they had found their Culture of Health calling. The city’s only urban farm is growing to meet the needs of a low-income neighborhood, and now student nurses are involved in this flourishing partnership.

Louisiana Still Recovering; Nurses Are Still There Too
When the American Red Cross asked for help after the damaging storm that hit Louisiana in August, among the nurses responding was Connecticut’s Cindy Holle, RN, DNP. When Health Is Good, So Is Business
Health Means Business, a two-year campaign of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, shows up in Atlanta next. One speaker at a forum this week: Lisa Eichelberger, DSN, RN, co-lead of the Georgia Action Coalition and project director for that state’s RWJF State Implementation Program. CMS Alters Applications for Accountable Health Communities Model Award
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid, which through its Accountable Health Communities Model will fund efforts to link community services with health-related needs, has modified its requirements for the first track: awareness. Learn more at a webinar on Wednesday, September 14 at 2 p.m. ET. Applications are due November 3.

“Teaching Health Policy” National Conference Set for January
“Teaching Health Policy in Graduate Nursing Education: Giving Wings to Innovation,” the fourth annual policy conference hosted by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nursing and Health Policy Collaborative at the University of New Mexico, will take place January 17. Submissions for abstracts will be accepted through October.
