Below are weekly Campaign for Action updates and tools for the week of May 12.
Thank You For Celebrating National Nurses Week With Us
National Nurses Week ends today, and we want to thank you for joining us in this year’s celebration! A special congratulations goes out to the many Action Coalitions who hosted screenings of The American Nurse. Check out our Facebook page to see some photos from their events!
Over the last week, the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action released three new videos to celebrate Nurses Week and highlight the value of nurses. Filmmaker Carolyn Jones, director of The American Nurse documentary, describes her oncology nurse in the first video, and how her appreciation for that care led her down a new path in life. The second video the special role that a hospice nurse plays with an entire family when a loved one dies. The final video features a woman who has been living with breast cancer for over a decade, her oncology nurse, and the special relationship that they developed over the course of treatment. We hope you’ll watch and share these videos and let us know what you think!
Shout-outs
Does your Action Coalition or someone in it deserve recognition? Send shout-out suggestions to Aidan McCallion at [email protected].
Maryland Consumers Now Have Full and Direct Access to Nurse Practitioners
The Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action congratulates the Maryland Action Coalition, the Maryland Academy of Advanced Practice Clinicians (MAAPC) and the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland (NPAM) for their work in winning Maryland consumers more direct access to health care. Gov. Larry Hogan today signed a bill that will allow nurse practitioners in the state to practice to the full extent of their education and training. With that, Maryland joins 20 states and the District of Columbia in modernizing scope laws so consumers have better access to quality, affordable health care.
Montana’s Blumenthal Making Headlines
The Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action sends a shout-out to Casey Blumenthal, co-leader of the Montana Action Coalition and vice president of MHA, an Association of Montana Health Care Providers. Casey is featured in a story by American Sentinel University, where she graduated last year with a doctorate of nursing practice.

Communications Support Available
The Campaign for Action Communications Team (CFACT) is offering communications support to Action Coalitions during April and May. CFACT has helped the Montana and New Jersey Action Coalitions develop new materials, written and placed guest editorials for the Texas Action Coalition, and supported the Utah Action Coalition as it organizes content for its website. Those and other kinds of communications support can be available to your Action Coalition too!
To inquire about receiving support, please email [email protected] with information about what activities you have coming up that would benefit from communications assistance. You will receive a response within one week.
Notes: Action Coalitions working on their State Implementation Program grant announcements should continue to use the process specified by the Campaign for materials review, and APIN projects should continue using existing resources to support their communications work.
