Colorado Gives Boost to Rural Nurses
Plaudits from Campaign for Action diversity consultant Barbara Nichols to the Colorado Action Coalition for earning a $150,000 grant from the Daniel and Janet Mordecai Foundation to recruit 10 rural nurses into APRN programs. Each nurse will receive a $10,000 scholarship from the local foundation. Congratulations to Karren Kowalski, Ingrid Johnson and the entire Action Coalition for making it happen.
Arkansas Proud of Its 40 Under 40
Leadership, service, and contributions: That is what emerging nurse leaders provide, and the Arkansas Action Coalition congratulates its inaugural 40 Under 40 nurses selected for those qualities and more. The honorees “have shown a commitment for excellence …and a willingness to advance nursing in Arkansas,” said Claudia Beverly, PhD, RN, co-lead for the Arkansas Action Coalition and professor and director of the Hartford Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Nursing. Campaign Advocates Are Among 2015 Fellows in Academy of Nursing Education
The Center to Champion Nursing in America (CCNA) salutes Kenya Beard and Donna Meyer for being selected as two of 22 new fellows at the National League for Nursing’s prestigious Academy of Nursing Education. Kenya, EdD, CNE, GNP-BC, NP-C, ACNP-BC, is on the steering committee of the New York State Action Coalition and chairs the subcommittee on diversity; she is associate vice president for curriculum and instruction at Jersey College. Donna, MSN, RN, is CEO of the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing and has worked closely with CCNA to promote the goal of academic progression in nursing. Engaging Nursing Workforce Centers
Action Coalitions engage with over 1,500 stakeholders in organizations and businesses inside and outside of nursing to help sustain their efforts. One valuable category of stakeholders is nursing workforce centers, which keep a watchful eye on the nation’s supply of nurses to assure we have sufficient numbers to meet the population’s needs.

The Florida Blue Foundation in partnership with the Florida Action Coalition seeks grant proposals to advance the goals and objectives of the Florida Action Coalition through the creation of a Statewide Nursing Leadership Development Program.
Deadline to submit a proposal is August 14.

Your Action Coalition is doing engaging work: May we help you promote it? Do you need to get the word out about an event, or want help creating materials? What about support in setting up a website to share your accomplishments and get others involved? We can help! Note: Action Coalitions working on their State Implementation Program (SIP) grant announcements should continue to use the process specified by the Campaign for materials review, and Academic Progression in Nursing (APIN) projects should continue using existing resources to support their communications work.
Institute of Medicine Seeking Input on Landmark Report
It’s been five years since the landmark Future of Nursing report was published: How has it changed what you do? The Institute of Medicine is seeking answers, and its evaluation committee needs to hear from you. Write to [email protected] about what the report has meant to you and others, and your activities and accomplishments (big and small) related to the report’s eight recommendations. The committee will complete its work by late August, so please weigh in by the end of July.

Leadership Programs to Build a Culture of Health
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is developing four new leadership programs that reflect the vision to work with others to build a national Culture of Health. The four programs’ working titles are:
- RWJF Diversity in Health Policy Research
- RWJF Interdisciplinary Research Leaders
- RWJF Multisector Leaders for Health
- RWJF New Clinical Scholars
Applicants may submit proposals for more than one program; each proposal will be considered separately.

Leveraging Nursing Leadership
July 7- 8 Nurses on Boards Coalition Meeting
The Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC) will convene at AARP’s National Office on Tuesday, July 7th and Wednesday, July 8th to monitor the progress of the NOBC’s seven work groups, discuss the budget, website, staffing, organizational structure, communications, and critical operational issues going forward. Health Resources and Services Administration Seeking Members for Advisory Council
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is seeking at least 16 new members for its National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice. This panel provides advice and recommendations to the secretary of Health and Human Services, as well as Congress, about general regulations and policy matters arising in the administration of Title VIII, including the range of issues relating to the nurse workforce, education, and practice improvement.
