Engaging Nursing Workforce Centers

Action Coalitions engage with over 1,500 stakeholders in organizations and businesses inside and outside of nursing to help sustain their efforts.  One valuable category of stakeholders is nursing workforce centers, which keep a watchful eye on the nation’s supply of nurses to assure we have sufficient numbers to meet the population’s needs.

Strong Communications Can Help Your Action Coalition!

Your Action Coalition is doing engaging work: May we help you promote it? Do you need to get the word out about an event, or want help creating materials? What about support in setting up a website to share your accomplishments and get others involved? We can help! The Campaign for Action Communications Team (CFACT) can assist with your news releases, promotional materials, and more, through September. Please email [email protected] and let us know what we can do for you.

Note: Action Coalitions working on their State Implementation Program (SIP) grant announcements should continue to use the process specified by the Campaign for materials review, and Academic Progression in Nursing (APIN) projects should continue using existing resources to support their communications work.

Wisconsin Center for Nursing Diversity Toolkit for Recruitment and Retention of Minority Nursing Students

Date: Wednesday, June 24
Time: 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. ET

Presenters: Barbara Nichols, DNSc (honorary), MS, RN, FAAN – CCNA Diversity Consultant & Wisconsin SIP Project Coordinator; Gloria V. Hawkins, PhD – Assistant Vice Chancellor and Director, University of Wisconsin – Madison; Maichou Lor, RN, MS, PhD Candidate, University of Wisconsin – Madison School of Nursing.

With the dramatic increase in the diversity of the U.S. population, the nursing profession needs new strategies to better deliver health care. Raising the number of minorities in the workforce to address the changing demographics of patients requires intentional recruitment and retention practices.

Objectives:

  1. Describe evidence-based recruitment and retention strategies of underrepresented students.
  2. Identify health outcomes challenges as a result of historic and ongoing, insufficient representation of minority students.
  3. Promote resources for Action Coalition utilization.
