White House Names Nurse Champions of Change
The White House named two nurses Champions of Change for Precision Medicine–an honor given to those harnessing data to advance our understanding of health and disease. Congratulations to Elizabeth Gross Cohn of Adelphi University and Amy Gleason of CareSync, whose work is improving Americans’ health.

New Nursing Pathway Program Approved in Ohio
The Ohio Board of Regents and the Higher Learning Commission recently approved a joint academic program between Clark State Community College and Wittenberg University–the first such partnership in Ohio between a four-year private liberal arts university and a state community college. The Nursing Pathway program, according to Wittenberg, allows students to complete an associate of applied sciences degree and a bachelor of science in nursing within four years. Congratulations to the Ohio Action Coalition and the many stakeholders in the Buckeye State on this achievement! To learn more about this innovative program, read the news release.

Culture of Health: Breakthrough Leaders in Nursing Awards Program Webinars
Are you a rising nurse leader working with diverse populations to build healthier lives and communities? Or maybe you know a nurse performing that valuable service who deserves national recognition. Whether you want to nominate yourself or another nurse, now is your chance to learn more about the Culture of Health: Breakthrough Leaders in Nursing awards, which offer recognition and a scholarship.
The Campaign will host two webinars on July 17 to explain the application and nominating processes for this leadership award.

Your Action Coalition is doing engaging work: May we help you promote it? Do you need to get the word out about an event, or want help creating materials? What about support in setting up a website to share your accomplishments and get others involved? We can help! The Campaign for Action Communications Team (CFACT) can assist with your news releases, promotional materials, and more, through September. Please email [email protected] and let us know what we can do for you.
Note: Action Coalitions working on their State Implementation Program (SIP) grant announcements should continue to use the process specified by the Campaign for materials review, and Academic Progression in Nursing (APIN) projects should continue using existing resources to support their communications work.
Institute of Medicine Seeking Input on Landmark Report
It’s been five years since the landmark Future of Nursing report was published: How has it changed what you do? The Institute of Medicine is seeking answers, and its evaluation committee needs to hear from you. Write to [email protected] about what the report has meant to you and others, and your activities and accomplishments (big and small) related to the report’s eight recommendations. The committee will complete its work by late August, so please comment in the next two weeks.

Future of Nursing Scholars Second Cohort Announced
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) has picked 46 nurses from across the nation as members of the second cohort of the Future of Nursing Scholars program. Each scholar will receive financial support, mentoring, and leadership development over the three years of her or his PhD program.
AARP Suggests Nurse-Focused Solutions to Improve Care for Medicare Beneficiaries With Chronic Conditions
AARP recently weighed in on a congressional effort to improve care for Medicare beneficiaries with chronic conditions. In a letter to the Senate Finance Committee, AARP urged a number of important nurse-focused solutions, including incentives for more states to provide full practice authority for APRNs, expansion of nurse-led innovative chronic care models, and extension of Medicare Graduate Nursing Education demonstration models.

Second Round of Awards to Recognize and Advance
Nurse Leaders Building a Culture of Health
The Campaign for Action is pleased to announce the second round of the Breakthrough Leaders in Nursing awards program to honor nurse leaders who are actively working to build healthier lives and communities.
We’re accepting nominations now for the 2015 Culture of Health: Breakthrough Leaders in Nursing awards. The 10 nurses selected will receive national recognition and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF)-funded scholarship from the Center for Creative Leadership.
Nominees must be licensed registered nurses who are either involved with one of the Campaign‘s 51 state Action Coalitions or are interested in becoming engaged with an Action Coalition. Nominees must also be working with diverse populations to help people live healthier lives and build healthier communities. Nominations can come from any member of a state Action Coalition, the Champion Nursing Coalition, or the Champion Nursing Council. The nomination deadline is August 21.

Nurses on Boards Coalition Meeting Update
The Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC) met at AARP’s national office on Tuesday, July 7, and Wednesday, July 8, to monitor the progress of its seven work groups and discuss the budget, website, staffing, organizational structure, communications, and critical operational issues going forward. “Recommended Criteria for Diversity Action Plans”: Two Years Later

It has been more than two years since the Center to Champion Nursing in America released “Recommended Criteria for Diversity Action Plans,” guidance meant to assist Action Coalitions promote diversity in all fields-education, practice, and leadership–to better reflect the communities nurses serve.
Join diversity consultants Adriana Perez and Barbara Nichols as they review the criteria and resources and present recent examples of what has worked well. We invite all Action Coalition leaders and members to hear and share success stories, challenges, and opportunities to strengthen the movement toward a healthier nation for all!
