Action Coalitions Hosting The American Nurse Screenings
Campaign Director Sue Hassmiller and the Campaign for Action staff send a shout-out to the Action Coalitions who are working with Carmike Cinemas to host screenings of the American Nurse movie on May 6 to celebrate national Nurses Week. Participating Action Coalitions include:
- Arizona
- Illinois
- Michigan
- Nebraska
- Pennsylvania
- Tennessee
- Texas

Alabama Gov. Names Action Coalition Leaders to Health Care Improvement Task Force
The Alabama Health Action Coalition sends a shout out to three of its leaders, Carol J. Ratcliffe, DNP, RN, FACHE, Joy P. Deupree, PhD, MSN, APRN-BC, and Ron Sparks, for being named to the Alabama Health Care Improvement Task Force. The task force was created by Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley this week to improve the health of Alabamians and increase accessible and affordable to health care throughout Alabama.

Thank you for tuning in each week, sending me stories, and telling me what you liked–and disliked–about the Weekly Update. I first took the reigns of the Weekly Update in July 2011 and it has been a pleasure connecting with you almost every week since then. This is my 177th Weekly Update–and my last. CCNA Webinar: New Coalition Leaders Orientation
Tuesday, April 14, 2015 | 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. EDT
Join us for the Coalition Building and Sustainability Learning Collaborative’ s second virtual convening. This session is targeted to new Action Coalition members and/or those who will develop onboarding for new Action Coalition co-leads and workgroup co-leads. This NEW learning collaborative is intended to enhance Action Coalition sustainability by providing coalition member engagement and management tools as well as promising practices that you can use in your state.
Objectives:
By the end of this webinar, participants will:
- Understand the role of Action Coalition co-leaders
- Be informed about the purpose and value of coalitions
- Have a better understanding of how to successfully manage a coalition

Communications Support Available
The Campaign for Action Communications Team (CFACT) is offering communications support to Action Coalitions during April and May. CFACT has helped the Montana and New Jersey Action Coalitions develop new materials, written and placed guest editorials for the Texas Action Coalition, and supported the Utah Action Coalition as it organizes content for its website. Those and other kinds of communications support can be available to your Action Coalition too!
To inquire about receiving support, please email [email protected] with information about what activities you have coming up that would benefit from communications assistance. You will receive a response within one week. Notes: Action Coalitions working on their State Implementation Program grant announcements should continue to use the process specified by the Campaign for materials review, and APIN projects should continue using existing resources to support their communications work.
Public Radio Spotlights Nursing Challenges
National Public Radio recently took a look at the nursing profession, which it described as one of the most dangerous jobs in America. A four-part investigative series ran on All Things Considered, NPR’s afternoon news program. The series pointed to government data that show nurses, nursing assistants, and orderlies experience high rates of back and other injuries, largely because of their work to lift and move patients. The Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC) Steering Committee will meet at AARP’s National Office on Thursday, April 23 to discuss important issues and make key decisions around sustainability and capacity building as the NOBC moves forward. Advancing Education Transformation
RWJF Selects 25 Nursing Schools for Future of Nursing Scholars Program
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) recently announced the second cohort of grantees for its Future of Nursing Scholars program. Twenty-five schools of nursing were chosen to receive grants to support 48 nurses as they pursue their doctoral degrees. Learn which schools of nursing received the grants here.
