Campaign Diversity Leader Receives AONE Award
Winifred Quinn and the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action staff congratulate Deborah Washington, PhD, RN, director of diversity patient care services at Massachusetts General Hospital, on receiving the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) Prism Diversity Award. Washington is co-chair of the Campaign for Action‘s diversity committee.The Prism award recognizes a person who has advanced diversity efforts within the nursing profession, the community or the individual’s organization .

 Get Ready to Celebrate National Nurses Week 2015The Campaign for Action is proud to celebrate National Nurses Week, May 6-12, and salute our nation’s 3 million nurses who are helping build a Culture of Health in America every day. This year we’re excited to team with filmmaker Carolyn Jones and the American Nurse Project to celebrate Nurses Week. From nationwide screenings of the film, The American Nurse, to a vibrant social media campaign, we’ve got lots in store! Find out what’s going on during Nurses Week and how you can get involved, including special information for Action Coalitions to help you celebrate.
American Nurse Screenings
It’s not too late to join in and host a screening of the American Nurse Movie to celebrate National Nurses Week on May 6. It’s a great way to help your community learn about nursing and the Campaign for Action. Communications Support Available
The Campaign for Action Communications Team (CFACT) is offering communications support to Action Coalitions during April and May. CFACT has helped the Montana and New Jersey Action Coalitions develop new materials, written and placed guest editorials for the Texas Action Coalition, and supported the Utah Action Coalition as it organizes content for its website. Those and other kinds of communications support can be available to your Action Coalition too!
To inquire about receiving support, please email [email protected] with information about what activities you have coming up that would benefit from communications assistance. You will receive a response within one week. Notes: Action Coalitions working on their State Implementation Program grant announcements should continue to use the process specified by the Campaign for materials review, and APIN projects should continue using existing resources to support their communications work.

Call for Comments: Proposed Revisions to Nurse Residency Program Accreditation StandardsThe Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) is seeking input regarding proposed revisions to the Standards for Accreditation of Post-Baccalaureate Nurse Residency Programs (2008). CCNE seeks comments from a wide array of individuals and organizations with an interest in the transition to practice of new licensed nurses in all care settings. Removing Barriers to Practice and Care
Medicare Changes Ahead for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
Congress last week passed and President Obama signed legislation that will make sweeping changes in the way Medicare pays doctors, permanently repealing its sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula for physicians. The bill also contains a number of features and provisions that align with and advance key Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action goals and efforts. Some important changes include:
- Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) are fully and consistently recognized as eligible provides throughout the bill.
- Nurse practitioners will be able to document evaluations for durable medical equipment.
- APRNs are eligible providers for chronic care management services; Medicare will also pay for these services.
