Campaign Salutes Departing RWJF CEO Lavizzo-Mourey
“Your legacy must continue” and “much gratitude” are among the tributes to Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, MD, MBA, posted beneath her final annual message as president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Her note, “Seven Lessons I’ve Learned About Improving Health in America,” includes a section called “Building a Healthier Nation Through Nursing.”
Congratulations to the University of Pennsylvania for welcoming Dr. Lavizzo-Mourey as the 19th Penn Integrates Knowledge professor.

County Health Rankings & Roadmap 2017 Edition Is Released
The 2017 County Health Rankings & Roadmap updates residents on how their counties have progressed on education, housing, and food security, and other fronts. The report, from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, lets residents see trends over time and even suggests ways to take action on the findings.

Action Coalitions Invited to Culture of Health Meetings
The Campaign will host three meetings this year dubbed “Building on the Campaign for Action Pillars to Create a Healthier America.” Action Coalitions have been notified as to which they’re invited to: Albuquerque, April 19-20; Madison, Wisconsin, June 14-15; or Boise, Idaho, June 28-29.

New – Funding Available for Doctoral Student Research, Projects
Versant Center for the Advancement of Nursing offers grants for PhD student research and doctoral nursing student projects that seek to improve patient-centered care and safety. Deadline: April 10.

New -Two-Year Fellowship Offered for Early-Career Scholars
Nurse doctoral students or post-doctoral fellows shaping nursing policy may apply for the 2017 Jonas Policy Scholar program. The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) initiative is supported by the Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare. Deadline: May 15.

SIREN Call for Studies on Efforts to Address Social Needs
The Social Interventions Research & Evaluation Network (SIREN) is calling for proposals for innovation grants of up to $150,000. The grants, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Kaiser Permanente, will fund rigorous studies of efforts inside the health care system that address patients’ social and economic hardships. Deadline May 15.

The Health Resources & Services Administration offers loan repayment programs that can help nurses who make a commitment to service in various areas pay off unpaid education debt. Deadlines: April 6.
