Invest in research and relationships, and be relevant and riveting: These are four of the 10 Rs needed to succeed in raising funds, writes Campaign director Susan Hassmiller, PhD, RN, FAAN, in the April issue of American Journal of Nursing.

Many nurses make a mark in health care, notes the Dr. Oz blog. The post goes on to provide an eclectic list that focuses on five especially noteworthy nurses, among them, Susan Reinhard, chief strategist of the Center to Champion Nursing in America.

Nurses Part of Research Program Helping People Age in Place
A research program at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing program called CAPABLE (Community Aging in Place — Advancing Better Living for Elders) is figuring out how small adjustments can make big improvements for those 50 and older. The five-month study teams occupational therapists, nurses, and handymen to offer services that let people stay in their homes as they age.
AARP Offers Support for Home Health Care Improvement Bills
The U.S. House and Senate each have put forth bills to allow advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) to do their jobs with less red tape, and AARP is among organizations offering strong support. The Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act would help Medicare beneficiaries get care without awaiting physician approval for visits from APRNs.

Albuquerque Greets Action Coalitions; Two More Meetings Planned

On April 19-20, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Campaign hosted the first of three regional meetings dubbed “Building on the Campaign for Action Pillars to Create a Healthier America.” The next sessions for Action Coalitions are in Madison, Wisconsin, June 14-15; and Boise, Idaho, June 28-29.

Funding, Tools, and Other Opportunities

Two-Year Fellowship Offered for Early-Career Scholars
Nurse doctoral students or post-doctoral fellows shaping nursing policy may apply for the 2017 Jonas Policy Scholar program. The American Academy of Nursing initiative is supported by the Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare. Deadline: May 15.

SIREN Call for Studies on Efforts to Address Social Needs
The Social Interventions Research & Evaluation Network (SIREN) is calling for proposals for innovation grants of up to $150,000. The grants, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Kaiser Permanente, will fund rigorous studies of efforts inside the health care system that address patients’ social and economic hardships. Deadline: May 15.
